Book Now, Or Prepare To Burn Toast

TAKING mum out for a meal on Mother's Day might be a welcome change from burnt toast and tea.

Although it's not till Sunday, May 11, restaurant bookings are filling up.

Butler's on Hunter will do a Mother's Day breakfast as well as lunch and dinner.

Breakfast, for $22.50, will include a hot and cold buffet and glass of sparkling wine. For lunch and dinner you can choose two a la carte courses for $45 or three for $65, also with a glass of bubbly. Phone 4926 1230.

Breeze Restaurant and Bar at the Crowne Plaza on Newcastle Harbour will also serve three meals on Mother's Day.

A seafood platter and bottle of Bimbadgen sparkling wine will cost $120 for two. Phone 4907 5075.

Treehops Restaurant at the Eaglereach Wilderness Resort, Vacy, lets the family get back to nature and still enjoy fine dining. Adults will pay $55 for a three-course lunch, including a champagne cocktail for mum, and a separate children's menu is available. Phone 4938 8298.

The Cricketers Arms Hotel in Cooks Hill has a lunch or dinner special for $17 a head, including a main meal and dessert.

Each mum will receive a potted chrysanthemum, care of Amaranthine Flowers By Design on Darby Street. Phone 4929 3041.

The Duck's Crossing at Eleebana has a lunch special. You can have two courses for $35 or three courses for $42.50 and enjoy music by This Is The Moment. Phone 4947 3825 for bookings.

Panthers Newcastle and Cardiff have lunch and dinner specials, including a complimentary 200ml bottle of Jacob's Creek Sparkling Piccolo. There's also the chance to win a Jacob's Creek hamper and a day at the races.

Wests New Lambton will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Wests Mayfield will open for lunch and dinner.

For a day out, Nova Cruises has two Mother's Day lunch cruises on Newcastle Harbour, Kooragang Wetlands and the Hunter River, costing $54 for adults, $49 concession, $44 for students 12 to 17, and $34 for children three to 11.They leave at 10am and 1.15pm. Phone 0400 381 787.

And for a really adventurous day out, there's a Jet Buzz jet boat ride on Lake Macquarie.

Leaving from Pelican Marina, it costs $50 adults and $30 children.
